Susan Union

Susan Union was raised on a horse ranch near Boulder, Colorado, where she rode thoroughbred hunter/jumpers and competed in the Mountain States Show Circuit. After high school she moved to California to attend San Diego State University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Finance. Following a successful career in real estate she began to pursue her passion for writing and worked for the Rancho Santa Fe Review in Rancho Santa Fe, and the Mammoth Times in Mammoth Lakes, California.

In 1998 her mare, Chickawa Rose, qualified for the American Quarter Horse Association World Show in Oklahoma City and earned a 6th place medal in the Trail competition. While in OKC, Susan reported on the World Show for The Western Horse magazine. She then continued writing feature articles on riding, training, and breeding horses, along with profiling human and equine personalities for The Western Horse, Quarter Horses USA, and Horse Illustrated magazines. As a contributing editor to The Western Horse, she had a regular column called 'Western Library,' where she reviewed both fiction and non-fiction books with equine and western lifestyle themes.

Susan is a member of Sisters in Crime, American Horse Publications, and the American Quarter Horse Association. She and her family, along with Chickawa Rose, live in California where Susan now writes the Randi Sterling mystery novels. Rode to Death was published in February 2014 and Paws for Death in December 2014.
